Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee Holds Consultation on the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill 2026

The Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly held consultation with the Department of Law and Order under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill 2026 as part of its legislative review process ahead of the Sixth Session of the Fourth Parliament.

The consultation focused on examining the objectives, scope, and key provisions of the Bill, including its alignment with existing regional frameworks and its role in strengthening Bhutan’s legal framework for international cooperation in criminal matters. The review forms part of the Committee’s efforts to ensure that the Bill is comprehensive, responsive to national priorities, and conducive to effective international legal cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Home Minister, Director General and officials from the Department of Law and Order.
