A group of students from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) visited the National Assembly of Bhutan today under the Parliamentโ€™s Visitor Programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing public understanding of parliamentary democracy and strengthening civic education.

During the visit, the students visited the National Assembly Hall and briefed on the constitutional mandate, roles, and core functions of the Parliament of Bhutan, including the legislative process, oversight responsibilities, and representation of the people. Officials of the National Assembly Secretariat also provided an overview of Bhutanโ€™s parliamentary system, its evolution, and the unique features of democratic governance.

The interaction provided the students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of Bhutanโ€™s Parliament and an opportunity to engage in discussions on democratic practices, public participation, and the role of legislatures in promoting accountable, transparent, and inclusive governance.

The National Assembly welcomed the visit as part of its continued efforts to strengthen parliamentary outreach and international engagement. The Parliamentโ€™s Visitor Programme serves as an important platform to promote awareness of Bhutanโ€™s democratic institutions, foster civic education, and encourage greater appreciation of parliamentary processes among students, researchers, and visitors, including future global leaders.
