The Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly conducted a consultation meeting with representatives from the Judiciary, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA), and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill 2026 as part of its legislative review process in preparation for the Sixth Session of the Fourth Parliament.

The consultation focused on seeking views from key stakeholder agencies on the proposed Bill. Participants engaged in constructive discussions and shared their observations, concerns, suggestions, and recommendations. The meeting provided a valuable platform for exchanging perspectives aimed at strengthening the Bill and ensuring that its provisions effectively facilitate international cooperation in criminal matters while addressing practical, legal, and institutional considerations.

The Committee will consider the comments and recommendations received during the consultation in the ongoing review and refinement of the Bill prior to its submission to Parliament.

The meeting was attended by two Drangpons and the Registrar from the Judiciary of Bhutan, senior officials from the Office of the Attorney General, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Royal Monetary Authority, as well as officers from the Royal Bhutan Police.
